MJTC holiday productions are interactive hour-long performances that promote diversity, family, sharing, and fulfill Minnesota state educational standards for arts and social studies. Every December for over the last 16 years, MJTC has been the central hub for telling children’s stories on the stage rooted in Jewish tradition. In 2009, MJTC’s original holiday production, Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins, garnered an Ivey Award—the highest honorary recognition in Twin Cities professional theater—for outstanding puppet design by Chris Griffith.

This last December (2018), MJTC brought back from sold-out performances the MJTC original play, The Chanukah Guest, by Jenna Zark, based on the award-winning book by Eric Kimmel. The play told the story of Bubba Brayna who was going deaf and blind and mistook a hungry bear for a Rabbi! Hilarity ensued as she welcomed the bear into her home, cooked for him and yes, danced with him! Students learned about Chanukah, family, Jewish tradition, and laughed along the way. Thanks for participating and joining us for that special production— we look forward to having you in attendance next year!

"Many kids in my class have never been to the theater…
exposure to something other than Christmas is great! Love it!"

-Steve Bates, Hugo Elementary, 1st Grade

“Why I think the Hanukkah show was so successful was because it was INTERACTIVE. Even though we sat in the very back row, the kids really felt like they were a part of it all. It was incredible!”
